Rope is quite common component used in many items like wooden armor, satchel charges, ladders and shotgun traps. Because of that it remains relatively useful throughout the whole game. It can be often found in barrels alongside sewing kits which can be recycled for even more rope.

Crafting
Rope cannot be crafted — it drops as loot, comes from a research blueprint, or is found at monuments.
Recycling
Rust has two recycler types. Monument recyclers are faster and yield 60%, but you can be attacked. Safe-zone recyclers in Outpost and Bandit yield 40% and take longer, but turrets protect you.
Rope cannot be recycled.
