Pickles are edible food. However, you have a chance of getting your hunger and hydration decreased (you'll hear a vomit sound). It is recommended you save up pickles to feed horses, use as a bait for fish traps or compost for fertilizers.

Crafting
Pickles cannot be crafted — it drops as loot, comes from a research blueprint, or is found at monuments.
Recycling
Rust has two recycler types. Monument recyclers are faster and yield 60%, but you can be attacked. Safe-zone recyclers in Outpost and Bandit yield 40% and take longer, but turrets protect you.
Pickles cannot be recycled.
